Max’s Birthday Adventure

Long time, no post – I know. I really don’t have an excuse!

Anyhow, here is my 2nd children’s book I’ve created.

Drawn with Wacom. You can preview it by clicking on the link below 🙂

A drawing from last night

Hi all,

It’s been a while since my last post. I’ve been laptop-less for a while now since my last one died a slow and painful (for me) death.

Last night I decided to pick up the ol’ pencils and start drawing again.

I used Graphite sketch pencils as well as charcoal to finish.

I began with the overall outline

If I decide to frame it I think I’ll fix the charcoal up a little and hide the edges. But I think the darkness helps the image pop!

Hope you like it 🙂

Audrey Hepburn

New post – YAY!

I’ve completed a drawing of Audrey Hepburn. Although it doesn’t totally look like her, I tried. 🙂

I hope to do more drawings like this but sometimes they can go completely wrong.

I have a few progress pictures below and then the final piece.

Hope you like it!

I start with the right eye

It’s the end of 2012

Happy New Year!

It’s been a while… I know. I didn’t get to do as much drawing as I hoped to last year. But like every other year, I’ll say it again…I hope it will change this time around.

Just before the end of 2012 I drew a humming bird using graphite sketch pencils.

There’s a progress photograph below and the complete drawing underneath.

I will post again shortly… hopefully. 🙂

Right Meow

Good evening.

I stayed true to my word and drew something just so I could upload it here so you wouldn’t think I was slacking off.

Everyone at work – including myself seems to be a bit obsessed with cats. I like it.. It gets me through my day when I get a random email with this on it..

I found a cute pic of a kitten & thought I’d draw the eyes and nose..

So see below for my drawing 🙂

I always start with the right eye.

And the finished product.

I hope you like it 🙂

Is it just me…

Yesterday I was in the city supporting my boyfriends brother in-laws clothing brand. It was in a gallery so while I was there I thought I’d check out the art. I saw some interesting work including a dog wearing a dress. But then I saw the winner of this particular competition that I was actually going to enter (I didn’t because I had no amazing idea for it.. but now I wish I did because.. well.. You will hear why)..

The winner, it seemed.. had cut out different colours of paper, something I used to do in primary school… stuck it all together and drew some lines over the top.
SERIOUSLY? Is it just me or is that really what we are calling art these days.

I can appreciate all kinds of art but a 5 year old could have put that particular piece together. I get really frustrated when I see some work in that style because I think.. well a donkey could have found some coloured paper and squiggled some lines all over it and called it art. Sorry, was that harsh?

So, I know.. lots of talking, not much drawing happening here. I will work on something and write another post. I MUST! If you’re lucky, it might be a few pieces of coloured paper with some lines all over it.

Watercolour Away

Hey 🙂

Can I just say one thing before I begin with the main part of this blog. I was RIGHT! A few posts ago I was talking about the other blog I made with my friends – ArtAKE. I’m not even going to bother linking since we stopped doing it (as I expected…approximately 2 months later). I will also add that I continued drawing each week but didn’t keep the blog going because I don’t feel it’s necessary. This one is my pride and joy 😉

Back to business!

I tried out a small watercolour piece of a girl looking into a hole in a tree.

I started this by just drawing with pencil and once I was happy with the outcome, went over it with black pen. I’m totally noob at watercolour painting since I haven’t tried it since primary school. So I continued with the actual painting part – going over things I didn’t like, trying to mix colours. It’s not easy. I’ve always had massive respect for watercolour artists. I can only hope to be half as good some day.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this post 🙂

Why Watercolour Makes Me Happy

I hope everyone is feeling good & feeling great. I had a weird day today… Usually, I’m all “I don’t feel like getting up and going to work on a Monday”…. *whine whine whine*.. dragging myself to work. Actually, I don’t know many people who LOVE the idea of getting up early for work on a Monday. But today I was all.. “Yeah, it’s Monday but I don’t care…I’m feeling fiiiine”.

And now you’re probabaly thinking this has nothing to do with watercolour.. and you’re right! It has absolutely nothing to do with it except for the fact that it makes me happy and that’s kind of how I felt today on a Monday. (A sunny Monday I could’ve spent at the beach.. *whine*).

My watercolour story begins a couple of weeks ago when I was browsing other art blogs and noticed AMAZING watercolour artwork. I got jealous and so I did what I do best.
I spent about $70 in the art shop just so I could try out watercolour painting. I hate that art is an expensive hobby. WHY!?

Nevertheless, I’m happy I bought my supplies and once I’m done painting I’ll post some pics here. It might take a while because I realised that it’s definately not the same as when you’re a kid and all your watercolour art looks awesome. Nope. It’s way different… I hate being a perfectionist. I’m willing to see what happens though once I begin painting.

Cya soon 🙂

And a good Sunday evening to you!

The past week has been pretty busy with work and catching up with some friends on the weekend. I went to Hard Rock Cafe down at Harbourside on Friday night. It was good but by the time we ate I was ready for bed.

Anyway, you may remember I mentioned my other art blog with my friends . Well we updated it with a new topic last week which was “Heroes”. I drew Will Smith. Not because he’s my hero or anything (although I do find him mighty sexy), but because he played a hero in Hancock (and really I just wanted an excuse to draw him). I might draw another pic of him sometime soon again where it actually looks like him.

So below you will find my drawing of Will Smith.

Drawers Block

…Well, we’ve all heard of writer’s block and how annoying it can be to deal with… but what about us who sit with pencil and paper in hand and cannot think of a thing to draw?

Sometimes I will really be in the mood to draw but with no inspiration or image to focus on. So what do I do? NADA. And that is the reason why I don’t draw for long periods of time. Either I don’t feel like drawing, or I don’t have anything in mind that I’d like to draw.

Another problem for me is that I’m not very creative. Yes, I know what you’re thinking… ‘But you can draw!’ Unfortunately, I’m not creative in the sense that I can sit and draw from memory or just make some amazing piece of work up on the spot. I neeeeeeeed an image to copy.

So, what is the cure for drawers block? I read online (and I’ve been told by a few people) that you should smoke weed and listen to music. Well, I’m not going to do that. But it would be interesting to see the outcome. What I find helpful is (if you’re like me and need images to draw from), whenever you find an image or see something you’d like to draw…and it doesn’t have to be right at that instance.. but take a photo of it, or save it to your computer for later. You will end up with loads of images. Then when you feel like drawing and have no inspiration you can check out what you had saved earlier. It’s not the BEST idea, but it works for me 🙂

Adios yo!
